It is well-known that the groups \(\text{Ext}^n(M,N)\) of \(R\)-modules \(M\) and \(N\) can be computed using either a projective resolution of \(M\) or an injective resolution of \(N\). This paper contains a similar result for generalized Tate cohomology groups. Let \((\mathcal P, \mathcal M)\), \((\mathcal M, \mathcal I)\) and \((\mathcal C, \mathcal L)\), \((\mathcal L, \mathcal E)\) be two pairs of complete hereditary cotorsion theories of \(R\)-modules. Let us suppose that \(\mathcal P \subseteq \mathcal C\). If \(M\) and \(N\) are \(R\)-modules then \({\widehat{\text{Ext}}}_{\mathcal C, \mathcal P}(M,N)\) is the generalized Tate cohomology group computed using a \(\mathcal P\)-resolution and a \(\mathcal C\)-resolution of \(M\). (I omit the precise definition.) Dually, \(\overline{\text{Ext}}_{\mathcal E, \mathcal I}(M,N)\) is the generalized Tate cohomology group computed from a \(\mathcal E\)-resolution and a \(\mathcal I\)-resolution of \(N\). The main result (Theorem 2) is that the two groups are isomorphic for all \(R\)-modules \(M\) and \(N\). The proof consists of standard, clever manipulation of resolutions and long exact sequences.
