Let \(D\) be the classifying space of polarized Hodge structures with fixed Hodge numbers and a fixed polarization arising from the \(n\)-th cohomology of smooth hypersurfaces of dimension \(n\geq 3\) and degree \(d\geq n+3\). For a family of such hypersurfaces \(f:X\rightarrow S\), we have the period map \(P:S\rightarrow D\) and its derivative at a point \(0\in S\) whose image \(T\) satisfies 1. Griffiths transversality \[ T\subset \bigoplus_{1\leq p\leq n}\Hom (H^{p,n-p},H^{p-1,n-p+1}), \text{ } \] and 2. \(\forall \alpha,\beta\in T,\;[\alpha,\beta]=0 \). A \({\mathbb C}\)-vector space \(T\) which satisfies these two conditions is called an infinitesimal variations of Hodge structure. Let \(V_r\) denote the set of infinitesimal variations of Hodge structure of dimension \(r=\binom {d+n+1}{n+1}-(n+2)^2\). The author proves that the infinitesimal variations of Hodge structures for hypersurfaces lie in a proper subvariety of \(V_r\). This means that geometric infinitesimal variations of Hodge structures satisfy further conditions rather than Griffiths transversality. The strategy of the proof is based on the inequality \(r\geq 3\times([\frac{h^{n-1,1}-1}{h^{n,0}}]+1)\) (which is proved by using the Jacobian ring of a hypersurface and Griffiths residue theory) and symmetrizer space of a bilinear map defined by \textit{R. Donagi} [Compos. Math. 50, 325--353 (1983; Zbl 0598.14007)].
