Let \(\text{Nil}^3\) be the 3-dimensional simply connected Heisenberg group with global coordinates denoted by \((x,y,z)\), where the \(z\)-coordinate corresponds to the center, and endow this group with the left-invariant Riemannian metric \(g=\text{d}x^2+\text{d}y^2+(\text{d}z+(y\text{d}x-x\text{d}y)/2)^2\). The main result of the paper under review reads as follows: If \(M\) is a surface in \(\text{Nil}^3\) such that \(M\) is invariant under left translations by some 1-parameter subgroup, then \(M\) is flat if and only if \(M\) is locally congruent either to a cylinder over a curve in the \(xy\)-plane or to the graph of a function of the form \(f(x,y)=xy/2+(y\sqrt{y^2-A^2}-A^2\log| y+\sqrt{y^2-A^2}|)/(2A)\) for some \(A\in{\mathbb R}^*\).
