For a totally real algebraic number field \(F\) and its fixed ideal \(\mathfrak f\), consider the partial zeta function \(\zeta_{\mathfrak f}(s,{\mathcal C}) = \sum_{\mathfrak a\in\mathcal C}N({\mathfrak a})^{-s}\), where the sum is extended over all integral ideals \(\mathfrak a\) from a narrow ideal class \(\mathcal C\) defined by the group of nonzero ideals prime to \(\mathfrak f\). \textit{T. Shintani} [Algebr. Number Theory, Pap. Kyoto int. Symp., 201--212 (1977; Zbl 0363.12013)] obtained a formula expressing \(d\zeta_{\mathfrak f}/ds\) at \(s=0\) in terms of the multiple gamma function. The author studies a \(p\)-adic analogue of \(\zeta_{\mathfrak f}\) constructed by \textit{P. Cassou-Noguès} [Invent. Math. 51, 29--59 (1979; Zbl 0408.12015)]. He defines a \(p\)-adic analogue of the multiple gamma function as the derivative at \(s=0\) of the \(p\)-adic multiple zeta function and finds a \(p\)-adic analogue for Shintani's formula. In the case \(F=\mathbb Q\) this gives a result of \textit{B. Ferrero} and \textit{R. Greenberg} [Invent. Math. 50, 91--102 (1978; Zbl 0441.12003)]. As an application, the author obtains a partial result toward \textit{B. H. Gross'} conjecture [J. Fac. Sci., Univ. Tokyo, Sect. I A 28, 979--994 (1981; Zbl 0507.12010)] about the order at \(s=0\) of a \(p\)-adic \(L\)-function.
