Suppose \(n \geq 2\). For an \(x = (x_1,\ldots,x_n)\) set \(x' = (x_1,\ldots,x_{n-1}), x'' = (x_2,\ldots,x_n)\). Let \(h>0\) and \(\Omega_1 = \{x'' \in \mathbb{R}^{n-1}, 0< x_n < h\}, \Omega_2 = \{x'' \in \mathbb{R}^{n-1}, x_n > h\}\). Set \(D_{x_j} = (1/i)(\partial/\partial x_j), \Delta_{x''} = D^2_{x_2} + \cdots + D^2_{x_n}\) and \(D_{\xi_j} = (1/i)(\partial/\partial\xi_j).\) Let \(a_k\) be a positive real number and set \(P_k(D_x) =a_k^2\Delta_{x''} - D^2_{x_1}\) for \(k=1,2\). Further, suppose that \(Q(D_x) = q_1D_{x_1} + \ldots + q_nD_{x_n} + q_0\) is a first order partial differential operator with constant coefficients with \(q_n \neq 0\). Let \(b_1,b_2,c_1,c_2\) be constants. The author considers the inverse problem of determining \(h\), \(a_2\) and transmission conditions from the system \[ \begin{aligned} &P_1(D_x)u(x) = \delta(x-y),\;x_1 \in \mathbb{R},\quad x'' \in \Omega_1, \\&P_2(D_x) u(x) =0,\quad x_1 \in \mathbb{R},\;x'' \in \Omega_2, \\&Q(D_x) u(x)| _{x_n=0}=0,\quad x' \in \mathbb{R}^{n-1}, \\&b_1u(x)| _{x_n = h-0} = c_1u(x)| _{x_n= h +0},\quad x' \in \mathbb{R}^{n-1}, \\&b_2D_{x_n}u(x)| _{x_n = h-0} = c_2D_{x_n}u(x)| _{x_n = h+0},\quad x' \in \mathbb{R}^{n-1}\end{aligned} \] and the additional condition that \(u(x)| _{x_n =0}\) is given. In some cases he proves the identifiability of the problem.
