The paper under review studies totally real minimal immersions of surfaces into \(\mathbb{H}P^{n}\), the quaternionic projective space with the standard metric of constant quaternionic sectional curvature \(4\). A surface \(M\subset \mathbb{H}P^{n}\) is totally real if its tangent plane \(T_{p}M\) at each point \(p\in M\) is orthogonal to the images \(I(T_{p}M)\), \(J(T_{p}M)\) and \(K(T_{p}M)\), where \(\left\{I, J, K\right\}\) is a triple of local fields of complex structures on \(\mathbb{H}P^{n}\). The main results of the paper are: Theorem A. Let \(x: S^{2}\to \mathbb{H}P^{n}\) be a totally real minimal immersion of a \(2\)-sphere into \(\mathbb{H}P^{n}\). Then there exists an isometry \(\phi\) of \(\mathbb{H}P^{n}\) such that \(\phi\circ x (S^{2})\subset\mathbb{R}P^{2m}\subset\mathbb{H}P^{n}\) with \(2m\leq n\) and \(\phi\circ x : S^{2}\to \mathbb{R}P^{2m}\) being a full minimal surface in \(\mathbb{R}P^{2m}\). Theorem B. Veronese surfaces in \(\mathbb{R}P^{2m}\subset\mathbb{H}P^{n}\, (2\leq 2m\leq n )\) are the only totally real minimal \(2\)-spheres with constant curvature in the quaternionic projective space \(\mathbb{H}P^{n}\).
