It is a well known result that the Cohen-Macaulay property of a monomial ideal is preserved by its radical. This relies on the fact that the radical of a monomial ideal is essentially obtained by polarization and localization. In the paper under review the same idea works in order to show that other properties are preserved by the radical of a monomial ideal. It is proved that if \(I\) is a monomial ideal of the polynomial ring \(S=R[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) and if \(S/I\) satisfies one of the following properties: Gorenstein, sequentially Cohen-Macaulay, generalized Cohen-Macaulay or Buchsbaum, then the ring \(S/\sqrt I\) satisfies the corresponding property.
