Let \(g\) be a finite dimensional simple complex Lie algebra, and let \(G\) be the corresponding simple simply connected algebraic group. Let \(\varepsilon\) be a primitive \(\ell\)-th root of unity, where \(\ell\) is an odd integer with certain arithmetic properties. Let \(U_{\varepsilon}(g)\) be the quantized enveloping algebra. To any simple \(U_{\varepsilon}(g)\)-module \(V\) one can associate a certain conjugacy class \({\mathcal O}_V\) of \(G\). The authors prove that if \({\mathcal O}_V\) is spherical (i.e. there exists a Borel subgroup of \(G\) with a dense orbit in \({\mathcal O}_V\)), then \({\ell}^{\frac{1}{2}\text{ dim}\; {\mathcal O}_V}\) divides \(\text{ dim}\; V\), thus solving the \textit{C. De Concini, V. G. Kac, C. Procesi} conjecture [J. Am. Math. Soc. 5, 151--189 (1992; Zbl 0747.17018)] in the spherical case. The result is obtained by using a new characterization of the spherical conjugacy classes of \(G\) in terms of elements of the Weyl group.
