Characterizations of fixed points of nonexpansive mappings (Q2575976)

Let \(C\) be a weakly compact convex subset of a Banach space \(E\) which satisfies \textit{Z.~Opial}'s condition [Bull.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 73, 591--597 (1967; Zbl 0179.19902)]. The author shows that a fixed point of a nonexpansive mapping \(T:C\to C\) is characterized as that of some nonexpansive mapping \(T_{\mu}:C\to C\) induced by a Banach limit \(\mu\). It is observed that an earlier result of the author can be expressed as a Banach limit, in some sense [see Bull.\ Aust.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 69, No.~1, 1--18 (2004; Zbl 1064.47055)].
