The author considers the problem of exponential stabilization (with prescribed exponential decay rate) of a linear parabolic PDE by a finite dimensional dynamic boundary feedback. Key idea of the approach is to first solve the stabilization problem for a (hypothetical) distributed feedback law and then compute the boundary control law from this using suitable observer properties. This allows to give algebraic conditions on the equation's coefficients under which the desired boundary controller exists.
