The authors study automorphism groups of certain (semi)groups of matrices. Their results about (generalized) stochastic matrices in Sections 5 and 6 are quite interesting; the proofs are very detailed and easy to read: Theorem: Let \(G\) be the semigroup of generalized row stochastic matrices, the semigroup of generalized column stochastic matrices, or the semigroup of doubly stochastic matrices (all matrices \(n \times n\)). Then any automorphism of \(G\) is inner with the exception of \(n= 2\) and \(G\) the semigroup of generalized doubly stochastic matrices. The authors also include proofs for the well-known automorphism groups of the symmetric and the alternating group and the group of monomial matrices. Those Sections 2 to 4 might be interesting to read for undergraduate students in order to learn how to study automorphisms of groups.
