The author argues that a right definition of what is mathematics would be that it is ``a linguistic activity, which is characterized by the association of words with precise meanings''. From this point of view he draws some pedagogical conclusions resulting in teaching examples which belong to the calculus of relations. \{Reviewer's remark: The only a bit more detailed mathematical example in the paper concerns the relationship between precision and imprecision, related to linguistic values from fuzzy set theory, and is in a subtle way formally false.\}
