In the 1960s, \textit{J. M. Cohen} and \textit{M. D. Cohen} [Nuovo Cim. 60, 241 (1969)] found a spherically symmetric and static solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations that describe a self-gravitating condenser. It consists of two infinitesimally thin spherical shells with charge \(Q\) and \(-Q\), respectively; the innermost region is flat, the outermost region is vacuum (Schwarzschild), and the region between the two shells is filled with an electric field. It is the purpose of the paper under review to construct a similar solution where the region between the shells is filled, in addition to the electric field, by an uncharged perfect fluid. It is essential that the equation of state of the fluid is of the form \(\rho + 3p = 0\). The paper also contains some remarks on generalizations to non-spherical situations and to higher-dimensional spacetimes.
