The paper deals with removable singularities for a Sobolev space. Let \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^N\) be an open set and \(F\) a relatively closed subset of \(\Omega\). The authors show if the \((N-1)\)-dimensinal Hausdorff measure of \(F\) is finite, then the spaces \(\widetilde H_1 (\Omega)\) and \(\widetilde H_1(\Omega \setminus F)\) coincide, that is, \(F\) is a removable singularity for \(\widetilde H_1(\Omega)\). Here \(\widetilde H_1(\Omega)\) is the closure of \(H^1(\Omega)\cap C_c (\overline\Omega)\) in \(H^1(\Omega)\) and \(H^1(\Omega)\) denotes the first-order Sobolev space. The authors also present a relative capacity criterion for this removability. Note that \(C_c(\overline \Omega)\) denotes the space of all continuous and real-valued functions on \(\overline\Omega\) with compact support.
