The article deals with the application of hypersingular integral equations to the mathematical modelling of wire antennas. In Sections 1 and 2, the mathematical background is given and the numerical aspects are described. In Sec. 3, the general mathematical model of wire antennas is deduced. Further (Sec. 4), the restriction to the case of a rectilinear thin wire antenna is given. It leads to the integral equation \[ \frac{1}{i \omega \varepsilon}\left [ \sum_{n=1}^N \int_{a_n}^{b_n} I(z) \left(\frac{\partial^2}{{ \partial z}{\partial z_0}} - k^2 \right) K(z,z_0, \varphi_0) \,dz \right ] = E^0_z(z_0),\quad z_0 \in \cup_{n=1}^N (a_n,b_n), \] where \[ K(z,z_0, \varphi_0) = (2 \pi)^{-1} \int_0^{2 \pi} (e^{-ikR_{MM_0}}/R_{MM_0}) \,d \varphi, \quad M, M_0 \in S. \] The distance between two points on the surface is given by the formula \[ R_{MM_0)} = \left( (z - z_0)^2 + 4 \rho^2 \sin^2 ((\varphi - \varphi_0)/2) \right)^{1/2}. \] Then the uniqueness and the existence of the solution is proved. In the next two sections, the models of power source (when solving the antenna excitation problem) are considered. The last section contains some remarks concerning simplification of the general model under some additional conditions of smoothness of the shape of antenna.
