The authors study the populations of solutions of Bethe ansatz equations and prove that a population is isomorphic to the flag variety of the Langlands dual Lie algebra, if it is a simple Lie algebra. The proof is based on the correspondence between solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations and special difference operators which they call the discrete Miura opers. These are discrete versions of the special differential operators called the Miura opers introduced in [\textit{V. Drinfeld} and \textit{V. Sokolov}, J. Sov. Math. 30, 23--70 (1975); translation from Itogi Nauki Tekh., Ser. Sovrem. Probl. Mat. 24, 81--180 (1984; Zbl 0578.58040)]. The authors discuss some properties of discrete Miura opers corresponding to solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations and show that all solutions of the difference equation \(\Delta Y=0\) are rational functions and the solutions can be written explicitly in terms of points composing the population.
