The volume of the moduli space of flat connections on a nonorientable 2-manifold (Q2577436)

The Riemannian volume of the moduli space of flat connections on a non-orientable 2-manifold is computed for a natural class of metrics. The dependence of the volume on a chosen metric is discussed (the moduli space does not have a symplectic form). For orientable surfaces with one boundary component and for non-orientable surfaces with no boundary, a new proof of Witten's volume formula is derived using a Haar measure.
