\(F\)-manifolds have been defined by \textit{C. Hertling} and \textit{Y. Manin} [Int. Math. Res. Notices 6, 277--286 (1999; Zbl 0960.58003)]. \(F\)-manifolds with a compatible flat structure are introduced and studied. It turns out that this notion shares some of the deeper properties of Frobenius manifolds (defined by B. Dubrovin) as Dubrovin's deformed connections, Dubrovin's duality. One main result of the paper is to show that there is an essential equivalence between the notions of an \(F\)-manifold with a compatible flat structure and that of a pencil of flat torsionless connections. Based on this it is shown how Euler fields emerge as classifiers of certain extended connections. Dubrovin's duality is treated via an approach on external vector bundles with a pencil of flat connections.
