    The concepts of multiplicative unitary operator and Kac system were introduced by \textit{S.~Baaj} and \textit{G.~Skandalis} [Ann.\ Sci.\ Éc.\ Norm.\ Supér., IV.\ Sér.\ 26, No.~4, 425--488 (1993; Zbl 0804.46078)] and were used in the generalization of the crossed product construction and the Takesaki--Takai duality theorem. Kac systems play an essential role in duality theorems for \(C^*\)-dynamical systems which are (co)actions of locally compact (quantum) groups on \(C^*\)-algebras. In the paper under review, the authors extend the Takesaki--Takai duality theorem to the context of Hilbert \(C^*\)-modules as shown below. Suppose that \({\mathcal A}\) is a \(C^*\)-algebra and \((H, V, U)\) is a Kac-system, where \(H\) is a Hilbert space, \(V\) is a multiplicative unitary operator on \(H \otimes H\), and \(U\) is a unitary operator on \(H\). Let \({\mathcal S}\) and \(\widehat{\mathcal S}\) be two Hopf \(C^*\)-algebras associated with the Kac system \((H, V, U)\). Then for any Hilbert \({\mathcal A}\)-module \(E\) endowed with co-action \(\delta_E\) of \({\mathcal S}\), which is compatible with the co-action \(\delta_{\mathcal A}\) of \({\mathcal S}\) on \({\mathcal A}\), the crossed product \(E \times \hat{\mathcal S} \times {\mathcal S}\) as an operator subset of \(L({\mathcal A}\otimes H \otimes H, E \otimes H \otimes H)\) is isomorphic to \(E \otimes K(H)\). A bimodule version of Takesaki--Takai duality has already been obtained by \textit{T.~Kajiwara} and \textit{Y.~Watatani} [Proc.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 126, No.~3, 841--851 (1998; Zbl 0890.46047)].
