Orbifold cohomology of the symmetric product (Q2580233)

The author studies some properties of the orbifold cohomology of the symmetric product of a complex manifold. First he summarizes the basic definitions and properties of orbifold cohomology, then explains the cohomology ring structure of the symmetric product. The main result is an isomorphism theorem between the orbifold cohomology ring \(H^*_{\text{orb}}(X^n/S_n;{C})\) of the symmetric product of a smooth projective surface with trivial canonical class \(X\) and the cohomology ring \(H^*(X^{[n]};{C})\) of its Hilbert scheme \(X^{[n]}\).
