For any compact Riemann surface of genus \(g>2\), \textit{B. Harris} [Acta Math. 150, 91--123 (1983; Zbl 0527.30032)] introduced the notion of harmonic volume. One of the main purposes of this paper is to determine the harmonic volumes of all the hyperelliptic curves. Theorem 4.1 provides 2 ways to compute their harmonic volumes: An analytic way and a topological one. The latter, in turn, provides a geometric interpretation of \textit{A. Tanaka}'s result [Topology Appl. 115, No.1, 19--42 (2001; Zbl 1018.57005)] concerning the first homology group of the hyperelliptic mapping class group.
