Statements
The authors consider the following situation: The group \(G\) possesses a group \(A\) of automorphisms such that \(|G|\) and \(|A|\) are coprime, \(A\) is elementary abelian of order \(q^2\), \(q\) a prime, and every non-identity automorphism \(a\in A\) has only \(n\)-Engel elements as fixed group elements for some \(n\). Clearly this is a generalization of the situation where only elements of the centre are fixed. The authors show that here is a number \(k=k(n,q)\) such that \(G\) is \(k\)-Engel.
