Let \(\mathcal R\) be a noncompact Riemann surface and \(\phi:\mathcal R\to\mathbb C^2\) a proper one-to-one holomorphic immersion. In that case we say that \(\phi\) embeds \(\mathcal R\) properly into \(\mathbb C^2\). The author proves the following theorem: Any finitely connected domain \(U\subset\mathbb C\) can be properly embedded into \(\mathbb C^2\). Moreover, let \(\{p_j\}\subset U\) be a sequence converging to a point \(p\) in the boundary (allowing \(p =\infty\)), assuming that \(\{p_j\}\) is regular for \(U\). Then \(U\backslash \{p_j\}\) can be embedded properly into \(\mathbb C^2\).
