The paper studied the zero-dissipation problem for \(p\)-system with viscosity. The author proved when the solution of the inviscid problem is a rarefaction wave with finite strength, there exists a unique solution to the viscous problem with the same initial data which converges to the given inviscid solution as the viscosity parameter \(\varepsilon\) goes to zero. To prove the conclusion the author employed the scaling argument and energy analysis based on the underlying wave structure.
