The existence of global and unique solutions of class \(W^{1,p}_{\text{loc}}(\Omega)\) of the completely integrable (satisfying the Frobenius condition in the distributional sense) Pfaffian system \[ dY^j=\sum Y^k A^j_{ki}(x^1,x^2)dx^i\quad (i=1,2;\;j,k=1\dots,l);\;A^j_{k^i}\in L^p_{\text{loc}}(\Omega),\;p>2, \] with prescribed values \(Y(x^1_0,y^2_0)\in\mathbb R^l\) is proved as the main result on a connected and simply connected open domain \(\Omega\subset \mathbb R^2\). The result is applied to the fundamental existence theorem of surface geometry: to the solution of Gauss and Mainardi equations in the distributional sense. The exposition is unusually clear and the article involves some other results (the existence and the stability of solutions) for the case of several independent variables.
