Let \(G\) be a connected reductive algebraic group over an algebraic closure of the finite field \(\mathbb{F}_q\), with \(q\) a power of the prime \(p\). Assume \(G\) has an \(\mathbb{F}_q\)-structure with associated Frobenius automorphism \(F\). Assume further that \(p\) is good and that \(q\) is large enough. A result of \textit{F. Digne, G. I. Lehrer} and \textit{J. Michel} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 491, 131-147 (1997; Zbl 0880.20033)] asserts that for any \(F\)-stable Levi subgroup of a parabolic subgroup of \(G\) the Deligne-Lusztig restriction to \(L^F\) of a Gelfand-Graev character of \(G^F\) is (up to sign) a Gelfand-Graev character of \(L^F\). The purpose of this paper is to make explicit the implied map from the set of regular unipotent conjugacy classes of \(G^F\) onto those of \(L^F\). This uses another description of the implied map by Bonnafé and also the transversal slices of Kostant-Slodowy in the Lie algebra of \(G\). But first one needs to develop a characteristic \(p\) version of the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula in order to pass between the group \(G\) and its Lie algebra.
