Let \(A\) be a proximinal set in the metric space \(X\) and \(P_{A} :X\rightarrow2^{A}\) the metric projection of \(X\) onto \(A.\) The set \(A\) is called a nonexpansive proximinal retract (NPR set) if the metric projection \(P_{A}\) admits a continuous and nonexpansive selection. The authors obtain characterization results for NPR subspace of finite codimension or of finite dimension of \(C(K)\) \((K\) is a compact Hausdorff space) and state the following conjecture: every NPR subspace of \(C(K)\) is of the form \(E_{Z}^{0}=\{f\in C(K):f\mid_{Z}=0\},\) where \(Z\) is a fixed clopen subset of \(K.\) For the space \(l_{\infty}^{n}\) one obtains that a subset \(A\subset l_{\infty}^{n}\) is a NPR set iff it is an interesection of NPR half-spaces.
