In 1844 E. G. Björling asked whether, given an analytic strip in Euclidean space \(\mathbb{E}^3\), it is possible to construct explicitly a minimal surface in \(\mathbb{E}^3\) containing that strip in its interior. The question, known as Björling problem for minimal surfaces, was solved in 1890 by H. A. Schwarz, by means of a complex variable formula which describes minimal surfaces in terms of analytic strips. In the present paper the authors extend and solve the Björling problem for space-like zero mean curvature surfaces in the Lorentz-Minkowski four dimensional space \(\mathbb{L}^4\). As an application they establish symmetry principles for this class of surfaces in \(\mathbb{L}^4\) and construct new examples.
