Consider the hypoelliptic operator in nonvariational form \[ Lu = \sum_{i,j=1}^q a_{i,j}(x) X_iX_j u \] where \(X_i\), \(i=1,\dots,q\) are vector fields on \(\mathbb R^n\) satisying an Hörmander condition, and \(a_{i,j}\) is an elliptic \(q\times q\) matrix with continuous entries with a suitable control on the modulus of continuity. The following estimate is proved: \[ \| X_i X_j u\| _{\text{BMO}(\Omega')} \leq C \{ \| Lu\| _{\text{BMO}(\Omega)} + \| u\| _{\text{BMO}(\Omega)} \} \] where \(\Omega' \subset \subset \Omega\) are domains that are regular in a suitable sense. To get the proof of the estimate several results on singular and fractional integrals on spaces of homogeneous type are proved.
