The authors study a system of coupled Ginzburg-Landau equations with two complex parameters. They demonstrate that the dynamics of the system exhibits at least three time scales, corresponding to nontrivial motions of the domain walls, boundaries of the domain walls and the paired vortices. It is shown that, after a transient period, in the first time scale the curved domain walls move according to the mean curvature while fractional degree vortices located at the boundaries of the domain walls remain static. In the second time scale, the domain walls become line segments and fractional degree vortices move towards each other in pairs. Finally, in the third time scale, the fractional degree vortices recombine in pairs and behave like conventional vortices.
