      The author proves the following results. Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be vector spaces. Then a mapping \(f: X\to Y\) satisfies the functional equation \[ (d + 1)f\left(\frac{\sum^{d+1}_{j=1} x_j}{d + 1}\right) =\sum^{d+1}_{j=1}f(x_j)\tag{\(*\)} \] if and only if \(f : X\to Y\) is an additive mapping . The author also proves the Cauchy--Rassias stability of the functional equation (\(*\)) in Banach modules over a unital \(C^*\)-algebra. Let \(\mathcal A\) and \(\mathcal B\) be unital \(C^*\)-algebras, Poisson \(C^*\)-algebras or Poisson \(JC^*\)-algebras. As an application, the author proves that almost every homomorphism \(h : \mathcal A\to \mathcal B\) of \(\mathcal A\) into \(\mathcal B\) is a homomorphism when \(h((d + 2)^nuy) = h((d + 2)^nu)h(y)\) or \(h((d + 2)^nu\circ y) = h((d + 2)^nu)\circ h(y)\) for all unitaries \(u\in\mathcal A\), all \(y\in\mathcal A\), and \(n = 0,1,2\dots\). Moreover, he proves the Cauchy--Rassias stability of homomorphisms in \(C^*\)-algebras, Poisson \(C^*\)-algebras or Poisson \(JC^*\)-algebras. The concept of Cauchy--Rassias stability was introduced for the first time by \textit{Th.~M.\ Rassias} [Proc.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 72, 297--300 (1978; Zbl 0398.47040)].
