It is proved the solvability of a diffraction problem for a dielectric body in a waveguide for the case of an absorption-free medium. The problem is considered in the region \[ R = \left\{(x,y,z)\in \mathbb R^3 \,| \, (x,y)\in\Omega\,,\; z\in (-\infty, +\infty)\right\}\,, \] where \(\Omega\) is a connected domain with a boundary which consists of finitely many infinitely differentiable arcs, and satisfies the cone condition. The domain filled by the dielectric body is represented as a union of finitely many sub-domains with boundaries consisting of finitely many infinitely differentiable surfaces, and satisfying the cone condition. It is shown that a generalized solution of the problem is in fact a classical solution (i.e., an element infinitely differentiable everywhere in the above mentioned sub-domains except for the edges and conical points, and that satisfies the transmission conditions in the classical sense on the smooth parts of the discontinuity surfaces).
