Invariance of return probabilities on locally compact groups. (Invariance des probabilités de retour sur des groupes localement compacts). (Q2583810)

Let \(G\) be a locally compact, separable, compactly generated unimodular group, \(F\) be a symmetric bounded density on \(G\) having a finite second moment with respect to the word metric. The author shows that the asymptotic behavior of the sequence \(F^{*(2n)}(e)\) does not depend on \(F\). It is also shown that for the solvable group of matrices \(\left( \begin{matrix} a & 0 & x\\ 0 & a^{-1} & y\\ 0 & 0 & 1\end{matrix} \right)\), \(a\in K^*\), \(x,y\in K\), where \(K\) is a non-Archimedean local field, the above sequence behaves like \(\exp (-n^{1/3})\).
