Die Semiinvarianten einer binären Form \[ f = a_x^p = a_0 x_1^p + \binom {p}{1} a_1 x_1^{p-1} x_2 + \ldots + a_p x_2^p \] besitzen eine Rationalbasis \(a_0,A_2,A_3,\ldots,A_p\) derart, daß jede Semiinvariante von \(f\) gleich einem Polynom der \(a_0,A_2,A_3,\ldots,A_p\), geteilt durch eine Potenz von \(a_0\), wird. Die \(A_i\) werden die ``Protomorphen'' von \(f\) genannt (\textit{Elliot}, Algebra of quanties, Oxford (1895; F. d. M. 26, 135 (JFM 26.0135.*)-137), p.212). Ist \(I_m(m=2,3,\ldots,p-1)\) die Funktionaldeterminante der Protomorphon \(A_2,A_3,\ldots,A_{m=1}\) nach den Veränderlichen \(a_0,a_1,\ldots,a_{m-1}\), so beweist Verf. die Formel \[ I_m = a_0^{\frac {1}{4}(m^2 + m -4)} \left [m^2 a_{m-1} a_{m + 1} - (m^2 - 1) a_m^2\right ]. \]
