The paper begins by defining the monic Jacobi matrix \(\mathfrak{J}\) associated with a functional \(\mathfrak{S}\). The author then describes, for quasidefinite \(\mathfrak{S}\), the Darboux transformation of \(\mathfrak{J}\) and also the Darboux transformation of \(\mathfrak{J}\) with parameter, as introduced by various authors, as well as the Darboux transformation of \(\mathfrak{J}\) when \(\mathfrak{S}\) is not quasidefinite, in which case one speaks of generalized Jacobi matrices. In this paper, the author considers the Darboux transformation with parameter of generalized Jacobi matrices. The author shows that any monic generalized Jacobi matrix \(\mathfrak{J}\) admits a \(UL\)-factorization (\(U\) and \(L\) upper and lower triangular two-diagonal block-matrices resp.), \(\mathfrak{J} = UL\) and that the Darboux transformation \(\;\mathfrak{J}^{\mathbf{(d)}}=LU\) of \(\mathfrak{J}\) with parameter \(\mathbf{d}\) is also a monic generalized Jacobi matrix. Furthermore, an analogue of the Geronimus formula for first-kind polynomials of \(\;\mathfrak{J}^{\mathbf{(d)}}\) is proved and relations between \(m\)-functions of \(\mathfrak{J}\) and \(\;\mathfrak{J}^{\mathbf{(d)}}\) are found.
