The author gives new proofs of two important results due to \textit{F. D. Suárez} on distinguished properties of the maximal ideal space \(M(H^\infty)\) of the uniform algebra of bounded holomorphic functions in the disk: the set of trivial one-point Gleason parts is totally disconnected [Am. J. Math. 118, No. 4, 879--904 (1996; Zbl 0858.46042)] and the second Čech cohomology group \(H^2(M(H^\infty),\mathbb Z)\) vanishes [\textit{F. D. Suárez}, J. Funct. Anal. 123, No. 2, 233--263 (1994; Zbl 0808.46076)]. It is also shown that \(M(H^\infty)\) is homeomorphic to the Freudenthal compactification of the set \(G\) of all points in \(M(H^\infty)\) whose Gleason part \(P(x)\) is an analytic disk. Finally, an alternative short proof is given that \(H^\infty\) is a projective free algebra [\textit{A. Quadrat}, SIAM J. Control Optim. 42, No. 1, 266--299 (2003; Zbl 1035.93017)].
