Let \(G\) be a group generated by its involutions. Suppose \(ab\) has order dividing 4 for every pair of involutions \(a\) and \(b\) of \(G\). The author proves that \(G\) is a locally finite 2-group. The author derives this from his Theorem A on finite groups. Define inductively the integer-valued function \(f(r)\) of the integer variable \(r\) as follows. Set \(f(1)=1\) and \(f(r)=3^{f(r-1)}+f(r-1)\) for \(r\geq 2\). Theorem A. Let \(G\) be a group generated by \(r\) involutions such that the product of any two involutions of \(G\) has order dividing 4. Then \(G\) is a finite 2-group of order at most \(2f(r)\).
