This paper considers the stability and positivity preserving properties of a family of nonstandard explicit Runge-Kutta methods of order 2 that generalizes the trapezoidal and midpoint rules. In such methods the stepsize \(h\) is replaced by a positive function \(\phi(h)\) that is also bounded by \(1\). Some simple numerical results illustrate the theory.
