In this well written paper, the author considers the set \(\text{Lip}^1_+(X,d)\) of all non-negative 1-Lipschitz functions on a group \(X\) endowed with an invariant metric \(d\). On this set, an associative convolution is defined via \[ f\oplus g:X\to[0,\infty[,\;x\mapsto\inf_{z\in X}\{f(xz^{-1})+g(z)\} . \] It is shown that \((X,d)\to (\text{Lip}^1(X,d),d_\infty)\), \(x\mapsto \delta_x\) -- where \(\delta_x:X\to[0,\infty[\), \(y\mapsto d(y,x) \) -- is an isometric embedding (where \(d_\infty\) is the sup-norm) and that \(\text{Lip}^1(X,d)\) is a monoid with unit element \(\delta_e\). Further, if \(d\) is complete, then the units of \(\text{Lip}^1_+(X,d)\) are exactly the mappings \(\{\delta_x:\;x\in X\}\). The main theorem of this paper states a Banach-Stone type theorem: If \((X,d)\) und \((Y,d')\) are groups with complete invariant metrics \(d\) and \(d'\), then \((X,d)\) and \((Y,d)\) are isometric if and only if \(\text{Lip}^1_+(X,d)\) and \(\text{Lip}^1_+(Y,d')\) are isometrically isomorphic as monoids.
