Composite electromagnetic waves in magnetodielectric systems (Q2631216)

This paper is focused on the propagation of the electromagnetic plane waves in a multilayered dielectric medium. The first part of this work is about the propagation of plane waves in homogeneous media of three-dimensional spaces, where similar arguments could be found in modern textbooks about electromagnetic waves and fields. The second part is about the derivation of formulas about the propagation of plane waves in so-called composite spaces, which is essentially a three-dimensional space filled with a piece-wise isotropic medium. The deductions mainly employ the important continuity properties of tangential components of electric fields in the interfaces between the corresponding two kinds of adjacent isotropic mediums. The propagation of TE and TM waves is also discussed in the composite space. The paper is brief and clear.
