Mainly, the authors observe a characterization of Takahashi's well-known minimization theorem in the context of quasi-metric spaces. In addition, they provide a characterization of Ekeland's variational principle, in the sense of \textit{S. Cobzaş} [Topology Appl. 158, No. 8, 1073--1084 (2011; Zbl 1217.54026)] in the framework of quasi-metric spaces.
