Let \(\mathcal{F}\) denote the class of all maps \(f:[0,1]\to [0,1]\). Then, let us introduce the functional classes: \(\mathcal{T}\), the subspace of topologically transitive piecewise monotone maps in \(\mathcal{F}\), \(\mathcal{T}_m\), the subspace of transitive maps in \(\mathcal{F}\) of a fixed modality \(m\in N\), \(\mathcal{H}^+\), the space of increasing homeomorphisms in \(\mathcal{F}\). Finally, define the operators (for \(f\in \mathcal{T}\)): \(\Phi(f)\), the constant slope model for \(f\), \(\Phi_m(.)\)=the restriction of \(\Phi(.)\) to \(\mathcal{T}_m\), \(\Psi(f)\), the conjugating homeomorphism, \(\Psi_m(.)\)=the restriction of \(\Psi(.)\) to \(\mathcal{T}_m\), \(h(f)\), the topological entropy of \(f\). The following are the main results in the paper. Theorem 1. For each \(f\in \mathcal{T}\) and each \(x\in [0,1]\), we have \(\limsup_n \#f^{-n}(x)/e^{nh(f)}> 0\). Theorem 2. If \(K\) is a compact subset of \(\mathcal{T}_m\), then \(\Psi_m(K)\) is an equicontinuous family. Theorem 3. If the sequence \((g_n)\) in \(\mathcal{T}_m\) converges uniformly to \(f\in \mathcal{T}_m\), and if \(h(g_n)\to h(f)\), then \((\Phi(g_n))\) converges uniformly to \(\Phi(f)\). The obtained results answer in the affermative to a conjecture in [\textit{L. Alsedà} and \textit{M. Misiurewicz}, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst., Ser. B 20, No. 10, 3403--3413 (2015; Zbl 1343.37020)]. Further aspects deriving from these developments are also discussed.
