A new approach to investigate the existence of periodic collision orbits in the planar circular restricted three-body problem is proposed. Using Floer homology it is shown that there are either a periodic collision orbit or infinitely many consecutive collision orbits. The existence of infinitely many Reeb chords is provided by the existence of infinitely many consecutive collision orbits. In case of absence of periodic collision orbits, finitely many consecutive orbits can only generate finitely many Reeb chords. The proposed approach is applied to the Kepler problem and to the Hill's problem.
