An epidemic model to describe the dynamics of a vaccination strategy for infectious disease is proposed. It concerns five classes of interacting populations: susceptible (S), exposed (E), infectious (I), recovered (R) and vaccinated (V). The resulting mathematical model consists of a system of five first-order ordinary differential equations. Using a suitable Lyapunov function, the authors first prove a sufficient condition of global asymptotic stability of the system. Then a system for a mixed vaccination strategy (combination of constant and pulse vaccination) is presented. Other sufficient conditions for local asymptotic stability as well as global attractivity are given for the elimination of the disease). Finally, by adding control variables into the system, the authors obtain a modified system which is analyzed using some numerical simulations.
