Let \(H^2\) be the Hardy space on the bidisk \({\mathbb D}^2\) and let \(L^2\) be the Banach space of all square integrable functions on the distinguished boundary \(\partial{\mathbb D}\times \partial{\mathbb D}\). By \(H^\infty\) and \(L^\infty\), the subspaces of bounded functions in \(H^2\) and \(L^2\), respectively, are denoted. For \(\varphi\in L^\infty\), let \(T_\varphi\) be the Toeplitz operator with symbol \(\varphi\) on \(H^2\). In particular, \(T_z\) and \(T_w\) are Toeplitz operators induced by the symbols \((z,w)\mapsto z\) and \((z,w)\mapsto w\), respectively. A closed subspace \(M\subseteq H^2\) is said to be invariant if it is invariant for \(T_z\) and \(T_w\). If \(M\) is an invariant subspace, then it is invariant for every \(T_\varphi\) \((\varphi \in L^\infty)\). For an invariant subspace \( \{ 0\} \neq M \neq H^2\), let \[ J_z(M)=\{ f\in M\ominus wM;\; z^n f\in M\ominus wM\; \forall n\geq 0\} \] and \[ J_w(M)=\{ g\in M\ominus zM;\; w^n g\in M\ominus zM\; \forall n\geq 0\}. \] If these two subspaces are non-trivial, then they are called two side frames of \(M\). If \(J_z(M) \subset H^2(z)\) and \(J_w(M) \subset H^2(w)\), then the frames are said to be rigid. This paper is concerned with the study of invariant subspaces with frames. It is shown, for instance, that there exists an invariant subspace with frames which is not unitarily equivalent to any invariant subspace with rigid frames. Some conditions are given under which an invariant subspace with frames is unitarily equivalent to an invariant subspace with rigid frames.
