This book is one of two volumes on photogrammetric computer vision. This volume focuses on geometric image analysis based on statistics, the second volume will concentrate on methods of image processing, analysis, interpretation. First of all, it is worth shortly defining the concept of photogrammetry. The task of photogrammetry is to provide the tools in science and technology to obtain information about the environment from images. This textbook contains three parts. The first part treats elements of probability theory and statistics. It will be used to develop methods for estimation of geometric elements and transformations. The second part deals with projective geometry in 2D and 3D, especially linear and quadratic elements and their transformations. The main focus of the third part is single and multiple view analysis. The reader gets an introduction to camera calibration and orientation and the reconstruction of surfaces. This is an excellent textbook. It can be used in higher education at BSc. and MSc. levels. The authors gives different education programs with different objectives to be achieved. This greatly helps to use the book. The interested reader will find some exercises in the book, but they serve as prototypes rather than being exercises for practical use.
