The author considers Riemannian surfaces equipped with a Möbius structure as introduced in [\textit{D. M. J. Calderbank}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 504, 37--53 (1998; Zbl 0909.53029)]. A conformally invariant equation, the scalar-flat Möbius Einstein-Weyl (sf-MEW) equation is investigated. Algebraic obstructions for a given Möbius structure to admit a solution of this equation are derived.
