The author considers curved differential algebras, defined in [\textit{E. Getzler} and \textit{J. D. S. Jones}, Ill. J. Math. 34, No. 2, 256--283 (1990; Zbl 0701.55009)] and [\textit{L. E. Positsel'skiĭ}, Funct. Anal. Appl. 27, No. 3, 197-204 (1993); translation from Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 27, No. 3, 57-66 (1993; Zbl 0826.16041)], and he studies their connection to corings. To any coring with a chosen element it is associated a semi-free curved differential algebra. For a based coring, i.e. a coring with a chosen element for which the value of the counit is 1, another semi-free curved differential graded algebra is constructed, and this induces an equivalence between the category of corings with surjective counit and the category of semi-free curved differential graded algebras. Under this equivalence, comodules over a coring correspond to integrable connections or quasi-cohesive curved modules, while contramodules over a coring correspond to a class of curved modules called \(\mathbb Z\)-divergences.
