Let \(X\) be a complex projective manifold and denote by \(T_X\) its tangent bundle. By Mori's theorem the projective space is the only projective manifold such that \(T_X\) is ample. A well-known conjecture of Campana and Peternell claims that more generally, any Fano manifold with nef tangent bundle is a rational homogeneous manifold. This conjecture follows in dimension at most three from the classification of Fano manifolds, the four-dimensional case is much more involved and was completed by \textit{J.-M. Hwang} [in: Proceedings of the international congress of mathematicians (ICM), Madrid, Spain, August 22--30, 2006. Volume II: Invited lectures. Sanz--Solé, Marta (ed.) et al., Zürich: European Mathematical Society (EMS) 613--626 (2006; Zbl 1096.14035)]. In the paper under review the author proves the Campana-Peternell conjecture for Fano 5-folds with Picard number at least two. Under this hypothesis the Fano manifold \(X\) admits at least two Mori contractions, since \(T_X\) is nef these contractions are smooth Mori fibre spaces [\textit{J.-P. Demailly} et al., J. Algebr. Geom. 3, No. 2, 295--345 (1994; Zbl 0827.14027)]. The statement follows from classification results in lower dimension and a case-by-case study.
