The authors present a description and analysis of a rational cubic spline with tension intended for computer-aided geometrical design. Its description provides the tension parameters which are used for manipulation of the shape of the curve. The rational cubic Hermite interpolant is introduced after some preliminary analysis. Then the rational spline interpolant behaviour is analyzed with respect to the tension parameters. Finally, a B-spline type representation of the rational spline is developed and studied.
